Paramo Cascada Jacket

It`s good:

Many people will prefer this jacket to all others in this test for one very good reason- because it offers exceptional condensation control and is therefore ideal if you find other waterproofs too sweaty. The fabric is also soft, very comfortable and rustle free, making it perfect for wildlife watching as well as hill walking! The jacket is very long so you get superb protection when walking.

The movement in the sleeves is outstanding and you get a good set of pockets with two at the base for the hands, plus a chest pocket that is ideal for maps. The hood rolls into the collar and when on the head it`s wired peak and movement are great for walking in the rain. Add in a price that is less than those of the finalists, and the Cascada has obvious advantages.

But:

956g is heavy. It`s very warm too, which could be an advantage as you need to carry less warm clothing, but in summer it would be simply too hot. As with many jackets, the wired peak tends to flip up when walking in the wind. You can force water throught the fabric when sitting or leaning on wet surfaces, although in driving rain it does keep you perfectly dry.

Buy it if:

You want exceptional condensation control and features that work well in cold weather when walking.
