Silva ADC Summit

This device provides valuable data for many mountain and outdoor activities [see spec]. It is relatively small, certainly lightweight and accurate. I`ve been using mine for several months, both in the UK and at high altitude in the USA, and have found it to be reliable and rugged.

What it is not is easy to use when you first get the unit. It has a complex series of menus for its major functions and I certainly didn`t find moving between them to be intuitive. To be fair, a detailed set of instructions is provided but you will need at least a couple of hours playing with the Summit to become familiar with it. Once done, periodic revision helps to avoid lengthy periods of standing around on a wet hillside trying to find the temperature. [Generally pretty cold by then].

So, if you are willing to spend some effort on getting to know this precision instrument, it will repay your time spent. Don`t expect to just pick it up and go.
